FAQ: What are the advantages and disadvantages of different rubbers?


1, Styrene butadiene SBR

Compared with natural adhesive, the Copolymer of Butadiene and Styrene has uniform quality, less foreign matter, and better wear resistance and aging resistance, but it has weak mechanical strength. Therefore, it can be mixed with natural adhesive. Advantages: LOW cost NON-oil resistant material, good water resistance, good elasticity under 70 hardness, poor compressibility at high hardness. Disadvantages: THE USE OF STRONG ACIDS, OZONE, OILS, OIL ESTERS AND FATS AND MOST HYDROCARBONS IS NOT RECOMMENDED. It is widely used in tire industry, shoe industry, cloth industry and conveyor belt industry.

2, Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene gum HNBR

Hydrogenate Nitrile rubber is hydrogenated to remove part of the double chain in Nitrile rubber. After Hydrogenate, its temperature resistance and weather resistance are much higher than that of ordinary Nitrile rubber, and its oil resistance is similar to that of ordinary Nitrile rubber. Generally, the temperature range is -25 -150 ℃. Advantages: Compared with nitrile rubber has better wear resistance, excellent corrosion resistance, tensile resistance, tear resistance and compression properties.Good resistance in ozone and other atmospheric conditions, generally applicable to laundry or dish washing detergent. Disadvantages: It is not recommended to be used in alcohol, ester or aromatic solution air conditioning industry, widely used in environmental protection refrigerant, R134a system seals, automotive engine system seals.

3, Nitrile rubber NBR

Nitrile Rubber is made of copolymerization of acrylonitrile and butadiene. The content of acrylonitrile is 18%-50%. The higher the content of acrylonitrile, the better the resistance to hydrocarbon fuel oil of petrochemical oil, but the lower the low temperature performance, generally the temperature range is -25-100 ℃. Nitrile rubber is one of the most commonly used rubber for oil seal and O-ring at present: it has good oil resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance and high pressure oil resistance.Good compressibility, wear resistance and elongation.

Disadvantages: Not suitable for use in polar solvents such as ketones, ozone, nitro hydrocarbons,MEK and chloroform. Used for making fuel tank, lubricating oil tank and rubber parts used in fluid media such as petroleum hydraulic oil, gasoline, water, silicone oil, diester lubricating oil, especially sealing parts. It can be said that the most widely used, the lowest cost rubber seals.

4, Chloroprene rubber CR

(Neoprene and Polychloroprene) are formed by polymerization of chloroprene monomers. Vulcanized rubber elastic wear resistance, not afraid of direct sunlight, has a particularly good weather resistance, not afraid of intense distortion, not afraid of refrigerant, resistant to acid, silicone ester lubricating oil, but not resistant to phosphate ester hydraulic oil. It is easy to crystallize and harden at low temperature, and its storage stability is poor. It has a large expansion in mineral oil with low aniline point. Generally, the temperature range is -50~150 ℃. Advantages: GOOD elasticity AND good compression deformation, the formula does not contain sulfur, so it is very easy to make, with anti-animal and vegetable oil characteristics, not due to neutral chemicals, fats, oils, a variety of oils, solvents and affect the physical properties, with combustion characteristics.

Disadvantages: It is not recommended to use strong acids, nitrocellulose hydrocarbons, esters, chloroform and ketones in the chemical seals resistant to R12 refrigerant, rubber parts or seals on household appliances. Suitable for making all kinds of direct contact with atmosphere, sunlight, ozone parts. Suitable for all kinds of fire resistance, chemical corrosion resistance rubber products.

Composition of synthetic rubber: Synthetic rubber is made of petroleum, natural gas as raw materials, diolefin and olefin as monomer polymerized polymer.

The polymer of rubber has broken through the process of monomer polymerization, and the world's leading rubber factories have begun to use higher strength rubber, made from ultra-high molecules, and the cost is quite low.

5, Natural rubber NR

Natural Rubber is a polymer of isoprene made from latex collected from Rubber trees. It has good wear resistance, high elasticity, tensile strength and elongation. It is easy to age in air, sticky in heat, easy to expand and dissolve in mineral oil or gasoline, alkali resistance but not strong acid resistance. Advantages: good elasticity, acid and alkali resistance. Disadvantages: no heat resistance, no oil resistance (can be resistant to vegetable oil), is the production of tape, rubber hose, rubber shoes raw materials, and is suitable for the production of shock parts, in the automobile brake oil, ethanol and other with hydroxide liquid products.

6, Butyl rubber IIR

Butyl Rubber for isobutene and a small amount of isoprene polymerization, because of the three-dimensional obstacle of methyl molecules movement than other polymers less, so the gas permeability is less, the resistance of heat, sunlight, ozone, electrical insulation good; Resistance to polar capacitors is large, generally used in the temperature range of -54 -110 ℃. Advantages: IMPERmeABLE TO MOST COMMON GASES, GOOD RESISTANCE TO SUNLIGHT AND odORS, CAN BE exposed to ANIMALS OR vegetable OILS or gasIFYING chemicals. Disadvantages: Not recommended for concomitant use with petroleum solvents, colloidal kerosene and aromatic hydrogen. Used for inner tube, leather bag, rubber paste paper, window frame rubber, steam hose, heat-resistant conveyor belt, etc.

7. EPDM

EPDM(Ethylene and propylene) is copolymed from Ethylene and propylene, so it has excellent heat resistance, aging resistance, ozone resistance and stability, but it can not Ethylene and sulfur. To solve this problem, a small amount of the third component of the double chain is introduced into the EP main chain and can be added with sulfur to form EPDM. Generally, the temperature is -50-150 ℃. Excellent resistance to polar solvents such as alcohol, ketone and other advantages: good weathering resistance and ozone resistance, excellent water resistance and chemical resistance, can use alcohol and ketone, high temperature steam, gas with good impermeability. Cons: Not recommended for food use or exposure to aromatic hydrogen. High temperature water vapor environment seals sanitary equipment seals or parts. A rubber part in a brake system. Seals in radiator (car water tank).
